COVID-19 UPDATES

We recognize the seriousness of the COVID-19 pandemic and are taking the right measures to ensure everyone’s health and well-being. Our priority is same as yours to keep everyone safe and healthy. We have adopted the measures advised by WorkSafeBC and  BC Centre for Disease Control for the safety and security of our employees, clients and the general public. We have provided disposable gloves, hand sanitizer and disinfectants to personnel currently working in the field.

Our field teams are fully operational but we have closed our office location until further notice.

All of our office employees are working remotely to serve our clients during this pandemic.
To prevent the spread of the virus, most Businesses are in either partial or full lock-down but there are reports of a spike of break-in incidents in Metro Vancouver. We are prepared to help protect the businesses with our Security Services.Stay Safe and practice Social distancing!

For all field operation employees

We wanted to share a fact sheet with you all so you know what is going on with actual facts and the state of where we are as a province and country.Good personal and communal hygiene will mitigate any infection risks to employees. The following practices should be implemented immediately:

  • Washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Using an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
  • Avoiding touching eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.
  • Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
  • Staying home when sick.
  • Covering a cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throwing the tissue in the trash.
  • Social Distancing

Employees are encouraged to practice appropriate social distancing practices. Examples would include avoiding close contact with other individuals who appear to be ill and avoiding close contact of a routine nature when possible such as handshakes. These measures will help control possible infection sources.
Symptoms
The symptoms of COVID-19 are similar to other respiratory illnesses, including the flu and common cold. They include cough, sneezing, fever, sore throat and difficulty breathing.
If you believe you have symptoms please use the tool/app: https://bc.thrive.health/

Alternatively, you may call 811 to get advice from a health professional and you can use a virtual health app to consult a doctor (Free in BC, if you have MSP)
Time-off Management
If you fall into any of the following scenarios have a conversation with your manager first and once your manager approves your time off request, send an email to jobs@guardnation.ca.The Human Resources team will assist you by writing you a quarantine or lay-off letter (if applicable) and co-ordinate with payroll to issue you a ROE; your request may take 2 business days to process due to current volume, please be patient. Please note that Service Canada is the sole authority to approve an Employment Insurance (EI) claim.

Scenarios:
Employee has been diagnosed with Covid-19 – If an employee is diagnosed with Covid-19, they are to follow their health practitioner’s advice and will not be allowed back to work until medically cleared.

We will not require medical documentation to confirm illness and time off, however, the employee will need to alert their manager. If an employee requires a ROE for sickness benefits, the manager or employee will contact Human Resources.

Service Canada will not require medical documentation at this time to assess eligibility for sickness EI benefits.

Employee has been ordered to quarantine – If an employee has been ordered to self-quarantine due to recent travel or suspected close contact to an infected party, they may be eligible for EI sickness benefits and time off.

Employee feels ill but has does not have a confirmed case of Covid-19 – The employee is responsible to get tested if they believe they are at risk of Covid-19 (these tests are free and can be accessed by dialing 811). The employee is to alert their manager if any symptoms show up.The employer understands the need to be flexible and due to time sensitivity, we encourage airing on the side of caution. However, once it is determined there is no infection risk, employees are expected to return to work immediately.
If you have any questions direct them to your manager and you may direct questions to Human Resources at  jobs@guardnation.ca.
