How do cameras work with no power or internet on site?
Each unit carries its own solar panel and a battery, so it makes and stores its own power — nothing gets plugged into the site because there's nothing to plug into. Footage travels over the cellular network, the same way your phone sends video, so no internet line is needed either. The unit shows up working and stays working whether your site has power in six weeks or six months.
What stops someone from stealing the camera itself?
Mostly the camera itself. The units are mounted high — on a pole or trailer mast well out of casual reach — and anyone walking up to one is on video doing it, with the footage already off-site over the cellular network before they touch anything. Tampering triggers an alert to our monitoring team, an operator can warn them off through the speaker, and a patrol can be on the way while they're still working out how to climb the pole. We won't tell you it's never been tried. We will tell you it's a bad trade: a lot of effort, on camera, for hardware that's already told us about them.
Can the cameras be monitored live overnight?
Yes — that's the point of getting them from us instead of a rental yard. The units feed into Guard Nation's own live video monitoring, so an operator can watch your site after hours, challenge trespassers through the on-unit speaker, and dispatch a mobile patrol or K9 team when something's actually wrong. You can also run units record-only if you just want footage and deterrence, but the sites that get hit at 2 a.m. are usually glad someone was watching at 2 a.m.
Should we rent temporary cameras or buy?
Honest answer: it depends on how long the site stays a site. For a short project — a few months of demolition, a lot you're clearing — renting temporary units is the right call; buying hardware for a site that won't exist next year makes no sense. For a long build, rented units still usually win, because your perimeter keeps moving and repositionable coverage matters more than owned hardware. Where buying makes sense is the end state: when the site becomes a permanent building, that's when you invest in a hardwired system that's yours.
